Balling up pairs of socks by wrapping the top of a sock over the pair is horrendous. It stretches out the material, takes up more space, and makes everything roll around. What are you trying to do with them, juggle?
All you need is for pairs to stay together. Given an appropriately sized drawer or box, it's sufficient to lay the pair flat one on top of the other, then fold together and store. Friction and the folds will keep them together.
When you need a pair, flick out the folds. No fiddling to undo the ball, no weird stretching.
What's the downside?

Nightly Notes
Yesterday was fun, but now I'm cleaning up the mess I made for myself. Feels good to have things to do, and do them. Crazy, I know.
Still, this isn't ideal. Writing somehow shifted to an inconvenient timeslot.
Need to fix that.
