I've been lying to myself ever since I stopped routinely carrying a folder that if I put full size paper into my laptop sleeve, it'll come out crisp. It's not entirely wrong, that can happen, but it takes additional care every time I take out my laptop.
More care than I'm willing to expend on most random paper in my life. Instead, I don't bother and let it get crumpled at the edges every time.
I would have been better off folding it in half or quarters so it's sturdy enough to take care of itself or small enough to tuck away in a safer pocket. Folding is usually not ideal, but it's always better than crumpling. Crumpled paper is messy, difficult to distinguish from other crumpled paper, takes up more space and looks worse.
This goes for smaller things as well. Folded receipts fit better in a pocket than crumpled ones.
A little foresight goes a long way.

Nightly Notes
I go through phases of attempting to eliminate paper from my life entirely, then come to the inevitable conclusion it can't be beat for some purposes and the rest of the world will keep giving me more regardless.
Still, it's good to get perspective, be reminded of how empowering the tangible is.
