If you hang your dirty laundry while it's waiting to be washed, it won't smell nearly as much as piling it in a bin. Normally the smell doesn't particularly matter since you only have to deal with it immediately before washing, but it can make a difference in small spaces.
If you make a habit of laundry chairing the worn but not yet dirty clothes, you already do this, just badly. Give clothes some time and space to air out and you can get significantly more wears out of them, as long as they aren't too sweaty. But, typically there isn't the space or hangers for this to make sense for an entire laundry load.
That is, except during travel. If you have a clean slate room, a small set of neatly packed clean clothes, and no chance to wash things before you have to pack them up with you, it suddenly makes a lot more sense to hang only the dirty clothes.

Every time I've moved or traveled, my everyday lifestyle becomes closer to my travel lifestyle. It seems too much work to make them distinct. Why wouldn't I want a more compact, lightweight and flexible setup?
Endless reasons of course. It's good to have a place to set things down, where things aren't in constant flux and you can make something out of it. It's important to leave space for things which come later, and less often. And yet I suspect there will come a time where my home looks more like I'm living out of it than in it.
