On Stuffy Noses

Assorted tips based on personal experience and no consultation with a medical professional. Take what you will from it.

  • Hot water solves everything. Run a bit of towel under hot water and hold it under your nose, and it'll feel much better. It might even unclog for a bit.
  • Drinking hot beverages is similarly good.
  • Inhaling the clog works in a pinch, but blowing it out feels better. Carry tissues. I think it's supposed to be healthier too because it's the stuff your body is trying to expel, but don't cite me on that.
  • Wear more layers even if you don't feel cold. It consistently seems to help and it's easy.
  • If you can't sleep at night because it's so clogged, lay on your side so one side unclogs a bit. Waking up dehydrated from breathing through your mouth instead feels awful.
  • Pay attention to the color. I don't know what the color means besides "clear is normal", but it seems to correlate with other symptoms.

Nightly Notes

I really wasn't sure about posting this. I'm not qualified to give it, and the internet isn't a good place to receive it.

But, it's the kind of advice I would give to a friend if they were sniffling a bunch at my place. I wish someone had told me I could sleep with a stuffy nose by laying sideways. It took me years to figure that one out. That feels in line with the kind of thing I want to post here.

So, here it is.
