We all have our poison, right?
Social media is traditional, but I've also burnt plenty of time on a never-ending stream of ebooks or flicking through my music library. When you need your brain turned off and something to fill the gap, you scroll.
It's a hard habit to break for a reason, so let's ignore that for today.
If you're going to scroll anyway, do it outside. When you get up for water or snacks or bathroom from the haze, catch yourself and keep moving for another minute. Grab a comfy jacket or a picnic blanket and lie down in the sun (or moon). Find a nice tree, or just lean on your doorstep, I don't care. Benches are great, and random stone half-walls.
The point is to be out. Being outside, being exposed to fresh air and light and a little bit of movement is good for you. It feels good, to give yourself permission to relax, going out knowing that you aren't going to be productive.
It's not going to happen every time, or even most times, but once in a while is better than never.
Enjoy it.

Nightly Notes
There's a limit to how low I can push free time before it comes back with a vengeance. It hasn't always been some form of scrolling, but there's always something to pass the time.
We need mental space just as much as physical, even if the screaming algorithmic carousel is the only way you can convince yourself to take it.
