Multitasking is generally bad, but sometimes you just need multiple windows to get one thing done. Reference information, comparisons, coordinating with other people.
Split screen is a great tool for those cases, and it's built into almost everything these days. Everything splits in half by default, since the system can't know which window is more important. But in most cases, I think it's better to split on thirds instead.
There's usually a primary window you're working in and a secondary reference window. Unless the application has egregious uncollapsible sidebar, you only really need a third of the screen to see what you need. Save the other two thirds for your workspace. If you're using the windows equally, try rapidly resizing the windows instead when you switch.
It's nice to have more room.

I'm tired.
Possibly sick?
I really should change my default split screen size.
