Don't use large trash bags for anything but trash. They're plentiful and convenient, sure. Easy to pile things into for quick storage or moving things around. But it's a cheap shortcut.
Obviously, there's the chance of mixing them up for actual trash. But putting that aside, trash bags are bad storage bags. But the material is flimsy and the shape is nonexistent. The handles are designed to seal up the bag, not for sturdy and comfortable carrying. They're too large to handle easily, and they don't stack or pile well. Because of the lack of structure and relatively small opening, they're horrible to search through.
If you only need temporary containers to pile things into for transit, get some large tote bags. For quick sorting, a collection of collapsible bins will be much easier to use. If you truly need the space for something massive like blankets, get storage bags designed for them instead, or just a large cardboard box. Even for disposable usage like keeping dirty shoes isolated, a basic plastic bag will do better because of the thicker material. The cost of better quality, purpose made items will be more than made up for in reusability and ergonomics for storage, unpacking, and moving.
Use things for what they're designed for, and you'll have a much easier time.

It's been a while since I took proper inventory of all the things I have to manage. Worthwhile project, but tiring.
Just seeing all the bags around makes me want to lie down. I suppose I should be glad I get to do it on my own terms at least.
Better to choose to discard yourself than have it forcibly taken. Not everyone is so lucky.
