Zippers

Zippers are a way of closing an opening which happens to be secure against light tension.

They are not meant to apply tension.

If you cannot hold the sides of the zipper next to eachother without zipping, you shouldn't be zipping it. Never use the zipper to force the sides together.

Even if there's no tension involved, it's easier to zip when the sides are together anyway. Save yourself some effort and pull it together first.
