You should have a bathmat, but it doesn't have to be a traditional bathmat.
A bathmat has two functions, keeping your feet off the cold bathroom floor and absorbing excess water. A fluffy towel of the appropriate size will do both those jobs as well as a bathmat, with the bonus that you can hang it up to dry, swap out for a fresh one whenever without having to manage a backlog of separate bathmats, and integrate it into your normal laundry cycle without dealing with clunky mats.
If it's not thick enough for your preferred comfort or doesn't absorb enough water, get a larger towel and fold it up or stack a couple smaller ones. I'm used to drying my feet as I step out anyway, so all I need is something thin between me and the floor.

Quick addendum to toweling off. I realized I had made a generic product recommendation without pointing out that you don't need the actual product, and wanted to fix it.
Owning less things is great for a variety of reasons. Most people already have surplus towels.
It works out well in this case.
